How Is Lower Eyelid Surgery Performed? Does It Leave a Scar?
Lower eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure performed to correct aging signs such as under-eye bags, wrinkles, sagging skin, and loosened tissue, restoring a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
The surgery is usually carried out under local anesthesia with sedation support or general anesthesia and lasts between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.
During the operation, excess skin, sagging muscle tissue, and fat deposits under the eyes are carefully removed or repositioned. This eliminates under-eye bags, tightens the skin, and gives the face a younger and more energetic expression.
Does It Leave a Scar?
Lower eyelid surgery is typically performed through a fine incision just below the lash line. This incision is closed with aesthetic sutures, and because the skin around the eyes heals quickly, the scar usually becomes barely noticeable.
In some cases—especially when only reshaping is required—the incision can be made inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach), leaving no external scar at all.
Mild swelling and bruising may occur during the first few days after surgery, but these effects usually disappear within a week. Stitch marks blend with the natural skin tone within a few weeks, becoming virtually invisible.
